Remembering
Becca D’Alessio
1991-2026
CFEC Parent, Therapy Team Member, and Beloved Friend
It is with heavy hearts that the Centers for Exceptional Children (CFEC) family announces the passing of our beloved colleague and friend, Rebecca “Becca” Lyczkowski D’Alessio, who passed away on January 24, 2026, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Becca was more than just our Speech-Language Pathologist; she was a champion for the children and families she served, helping many of our students reach life-changing milestones and goals with her gifts of compassion and encouragement. A graduate of Ithaca College and UNC Chapel Hill, Becca brought a deep passion for early intervention to Winston-Salem. Her clients flourished under her care, benefiting from her unique gift for making others feel comforted, heard, and loved.
Beyond her clinical brilliance, Becca was a devoted wife to Bradford and a mother to two beautiful children, Juliana and Cameron, who are cherished students in the CFEC Infant-Toddler Program. Whether she was exploring the beach, reading to her children, sharing a laugh with colleagues, or a meaningful moment with a student, Becca’s presence was a source of joy and stability.
While her time with us was far too brief, the impact she made on the lives of "her kids" at CFEC will be felt for generations.
In Her Honor
A celebration of life will be held in Winston-Salem at a later date, and those details will be shared with the CFEC community as they are confirmed. In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Becca’s selfless nature, she requested that contributions be made to the “Carrying Becca’s Love Forward” GoFundMe to support her husband and children.
Supporting Our Children and Each Other
As we navigate this loss together, we recognize that many of you are also parents to Becca’s children’s classmates. As her children eventually return to CFEC, we want to ensure our community is a space of comfort and understanding. If you are looking for ways to talk to your own children about grief and loss in an age-appropriate way, we recommend the following resources:
The Dougy Center: Provides extensive guides for parents on helping children through the death of a friend or teacher.
Sesame Workshop: Offers toolkits specifically designed for preschool-aged children to process big feelings.
Child Mind Institute: Provides a comprehensive guide on "Helping Children Cope with Grief," including tips on using concrete language and maintaining routines.
Trellis Supportive Care (Winston-Salem): Local resource for children directly impacted by the loss of a loved one. Offers free grief counseling, a specialized grief library, and the "Camp Carousel" program for children.
Our staff is also available to support your family in any way we can as we honor Becca’s memory.
