Each week, volunteer John Cortez can be seen traveling the hallways of The Special Children’s School and The Children’s Center, going from room to room and delighting children with his special story time visits. John’s grandson, Chase, attended The Special Children’s School, and John volunteered to read to his grandson’s class. John then started reading to children enrolled in our summer program, and he now reads to children at both schools each week. John also volunteers at Southwest Elementary School, where his grandson is now attending in a Pre-K Readiness class. John says, “Volunteering for me is different than others. I am overly passionate about my time with the students. As an individual with a disability, I know how the road of life is a difficult journey. I know that I will not change the world’s view on individuals with disabilities, however, I am going to do my part. I love what I do and I do what I love.” We are so grateful that Mr. John chooses to share his time and talents with us.
