Adams, Diane

    Teacher Assistant, Infant & Toddler

    Diane Adams has  worked with children ages birth – five years old for the last 34 years. She loves working with younger children and watching them grow and learn. Diane attended Forsyth Technical Community College where she obtained her certificate in Early Childhood Education – Infant and Toddler. While she is not in the classroom, Diane enjoys spending time with her two adult children and granddaughter.

    Bailey, Ericka

    Teacher, Infant & Toddler

    Ericka received a BA degree in Birth through Kindergarten Education with a minor in Business from Winston Salem State University. She has a passion for working with toddlers and infants and has worked with them for a decade. She loves spending time with her two kids.

      Borders, Margaret

      Teacher Assistant, Infant & Toddler

      Margaret graduated from Forsyth Technical Community College with an associate degree in Early Childhood Education. She also obtained her Autism Paraprofessional Certificate from Forsyth Tech. Margaret did her student teaching here at the Children’s Center where she discovered that her passion is working with children who have special needs. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her children and participating in Zumba.

      Lippiello, Diane    

      Physical Therapist

      Diane Lippiello has been a physical therapist for 40 years and has served children for 35 years. Diane graduated from Russell Sage College / Albany Medical College in Troy, New York. She is certified in neuro-developmental pediatric therapy (NDT).

      Lucente, Maria

      Speech Therapist

      Maria Lucente came to The Children’s Center in 2011 and has 31 years of experience working with pediatric speech and language disorders. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in speech language pathology, and Master of Education degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has spent the majority of her professional career working with children that have special needs. She lives in High Point and has two grown children of her own.

      Martin, Shawn

      Director, Infant & Toddler Program

      Shawn Martin has an extensive background in the field of early childhood education. She holds an A.A.S. (Early Childhood Education with Administrative Credential) from Forsyth Technical Community College and a B.A. (Teaching, Schools and Society with Advocacy Concentration) from Salem College. She comes to the CFEC with more than thirty years of experience working with children with and without special needs. Shawn has served as a board member for both Smart Start of Forsyth County and Work Family Resource Center. She continually seeks out opportunities to advocate for all children and families.

        McCrorey, Jessica

        Teacher, Infant & Toddler

        Jessica received a BA degree in Birth-Kindergarten Education from Winston-Salem State University. She enjoys working with children, especially when she is able to see their progress. She has worked in the field of early childhood education for more than 8 years. Jessica loves spending her time outside of the classroom doing Zumba and being with family and friends.

        Mullane, Kim

        Occupational Therapist

        Kim Mullane has been an Occupational Therapist since graduating from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1990.  Kim’s experience has all been in pediatrics.  She thoroughly enjoys working with the Infant and Toddler program at The Children’s Center.

          Oates, Sharonda

          Teacher, Infant & Toddler

          Sharonda received a Bachelor of Science degree in Birth to Kindergarten Early Intervention with a minor in Special Education from Winston-Salem State University. While studying in school she began working with adults with special needs before transitioning to serve children with special needs. Sharonda has always had a passion for children, and after working with adults with special needs she knew she would enjoy working with children as well. She enjoys reading and spending time with her family and friends.

            Poe, William

            Teacher Assistant, Infant & Toddler

            William Poe is a native of Winston-Salem, NC. He received a BA in Sociology with a concentration in Social Welfare from Winston-Salem State University in 2009. He is dedicated to working with children and been in early childhood education for almost 2 years. He has been a Pre-K teacher, Group Leader working with school age children, and a teacher assistant with the Forsyth County School System. He enjoys music and singing. He is an Assistant Choir Director and a Chairman of the Anniversary Committee at his church.

            Scott, Candace

            Teacher, Infant & Toddler

            Candace received a BA degree in Child and Family Intervention from Lenoir-Rhyne University. She obtained Level 3 Administration and earned an Autism Paraprofessional Certificate from Forsyth Technical Community College. Candace says that working with children has always been her passion, and she later developed a high interest in working with children with special needs. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

              Smith, Amira

              Teacher Assistant, Infant & Toddler

              Amira Smith joined the CFEC family in 2017. Amira earned a certificate in Early Childhood Education from Forsyth Technical Community College and is working towards an associate degree. She has worked in the field of early childhood education for more than 16 years. Amira is the mother of two beautiful daughters, Mariah and Brooklynn. Outside of work, Amira loves to read and spend time with her family.

                Taylor, Cheryl

                Teacher, Typical Preschool

                Cheryl has been an early educator for more than 27 years. She worked at First Baptist Church Children’s Center for 21 years as a Pre-K teacher and then as Program Coordinator/Assistant Director. Cheryl earned an AAS Degree in Early Childhood Education from Forsyth Technical Community College, and she majored in Birth-Kindergarten Education at Winston-Salem State University.

                  Thompson, Joanne

                  Teacher Assistant, Typical Preschool

                  Joanne has worked in the field of early childhood education for more than 33 years. She is the proud mother of two adult children (Jonita and BJ) and grandmother of two (Amyah and Jeremiah). Joanne joined The Children’s Center family in January, 2018.

                  Yates, JoAnn

                  Horticultural Therapist

                  JoAnn Yates directs the Horticultural Therapy Program at The Children’s Center. Since creating this position in 2009 JoAnn has designed both an outdoor learning space and developed a classroom curriculum designed to stimulate sensory, motor and cognitive skills for students of all abilities from age 18 months to age eleven. JoAnn has a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Foods and Nutrition from Appalachian State University. She completed the Horticultural Therapy training requirement from the Horticultural Therapy Institute in Denver and is registered with the American Horticultural Therapy Association. JoAnn also has an Associate of Arts degree in Horticulture from Forsyth Technical Community College and is a Certified Healing Touch practitioner. She considers serving the children at The Children’s Center a privilege.
